La muerte chiquita
This series of videos is the fruit of a project I did when I realized I was going to have absolutely nothing to do while the kids were in their last week of school. I don't normally have such luxurious, pre-planned alone time, and I decided to use it to do a project that I sometimes wish I could do but never seem to have time for. So I recorded 11 songs in three different morning sessions of a few hours each. This project has simultaneously been a lesson in humility and a self-confidence builder. I'm really glad I did it!
Los Aviones
I love this song! In general, I think it's a better idea to cover a song that is originally sung by a not awesome singer rather than an awesome one (not to take away from any artist, but it's true that my singing skills will probably seem better doing, for example, a Bob Dylan song rather than a Mariah Carey song, does that make sense?) Andres Calamaro writes AMAZING songs and has a very unique, gritty voice, so there's some room for me to let my own voice be unique in it's own way in this crazy beautiful song.
La Llorona
Many years ago in what feels like a whole different lifetime, I used to listen to a lot of Jaguares. This was always one of my favorite songs by them, I think because it has a softness/femininity that I understand. And a little bit of darkness and magic that obviously comes from the Llorona element. I wouldn't say that I'm super interested in/knowledgeable about the llorona legend, but it is pretty cool.
